YABBY DAM FARMS are offering 12 lots by first season sire VOLSTEAD at next year’s Nutrien Equine Standardbred Yearling Sale in Melbourne.

Although these are Volstead’s first yearlings to go under the hammer, Yabby Dam Farms offered and sold four Volstead weanlings at the Nurtien Equine Online Spring Mixed Standardbred Sale earlier this year.

One of the weanlings, a colt out of Aspiring Love, topped the sale at $16,100.

The European-based US-bred Volstead shuttled to Australia last year and this breeding season has been available to Australian breeders via frozen semen.

Volstead’s lots are out of a stunning line-up of broodmares, including Another Player – the dam of US-based open class trotter Majestic Player.

Majestic Player is the fastest Australasian-bred trotter of all time (1:51.1) and has raced against the best trotters in the US, having this year contested the Breeders Crown.

Three other lots are out of French-bred mares – all newcomers to the Australian breeding scene.

VOLSTEAD US-ANOTHER PLAYER NZ filly: half-sister to US-based Majestic Player, all-time fastest Australian-bred trotter.

VOLSTEAD US-BOUTTEMONT colt: first foal out of this Ready Cash Fra mare (3 wins), which is half-sister to 4 winners including G1 winner Vincennes

VOLSTEAD US-COURCHEVEL NZ colt: first foal of this Love You Fra mare. Courchevel was multiple G1 placegetter.

VOLSTEAD US-CYCLONE JETER NZ colt: first foal of G3 winner. Cyclone Jeter was a 10-time winner.

VOLSTEAD US-DREAM ISLAND Fra filly: first foal out of imported daughter of Sam Bourbon Fra. Races three times in Australia for wins as 3yo at Bendigo and Kilmore. Dream Island is out of Coktail Jet Fra (sire of Love You Fra) mare Island Dream Fra.

VOLSTEAD US-DUCHESS ELLA filly: first living foal of multiple G2 and G3-placed Duchess Ella (14 wins).

VOLSTEAD US-FALAISE MADRIK Fra filly: first foal of Royal Dream Fra mare. Raced twice in Australia as 3yo. Falaise Madrik is half-sister to French sire and G1 winner The Best Madrik, which is on the Haras des Trotteurs roster.

VOLSTEAD US-FILLE DUN SOIR Fra colt: first foal of unraced French mare, which is a granddaughter of My Lovely Girl Fra – a full sister to champion sire Love You Fra.

VOLSTEAD US-ORNE filly: first foal of Orne, which is unraced. Orne is a daughter of G1-placed Sassy Pinevale, which is dam of Electrojet (4 wins).

VOLSTEAD US-PIZZA QUEEN USA colt: first foal of G2 and G3 winner. Pizza Queen progressed to free-for-all company, winning 10 times.

VOLSTEAD US-ROXY MAGUIRE NZ filly: first foal out of young race-winning Bettors Delight mare, which only raced as a 2yo and had her only success at Maryborough in 2018. Roxy Maguire is from a highly successful pacing family, being a full sister to Lord Zin Zan NZ (1:49.6, 28 wins) and Zach Maguire NZ (1:52.2, 23 wins), and half-sister to Jack Farthing NZ (1:50.3, 18 wins).

VOLSTEAD US- VAL GARDENA filly: second foal out of Val Gardena to race, following Menangle winner Gardena Ronda. Val Gardena was multiple-placed at group 1 level and is a group 2 winner among 12 career victories.
