LOVE YOU colt OUTAMYWAY chose a big stage to break his maiden status at Addington on Friday night.
Outamyway Make a late surge to claim the listed $75,000 NZB Standardbred Harness Million 2yo Trot, 1980m.
He edged out Franco Jorik by a head, with Son Of Patrick third.
Outamyway is trained by the highly regarded Paul Nairn and was driven by Blair Orange.
The last 400m was covered in 28.4 seconds, for a mile rate of 1:59.9.
“He is a good staying type of horse and those are the types of horses you want,” Nairn said.
“He didn’t trot as well as I would have liked him to but Blair did a great job holding him together.”
Outamyway was purchased at last year’s NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sales at Christchurch.
He was bred by Peter and Jan Williams, who are part of the ownership group with SP Murdoch, V Nairn, SE Nairn, Red And White Syndicate and BL Lissington.
Outamyway debuted with a third in late August and followed up with another third at his next outing.
Friday night was his fifth career start.
The colt is out of Sundon mare Do It Your Way, which was unraced, but has now produced four winners.
Outamyway is Love You’s seventh winner out of his 2017 New Zealand crop, which also includes EUROKASH, LEAF STRIDE, LOVE N THE PORT, WANNA PLAY WITH ME, WANNA SNUGGLE AND SUMMER LOVIN.
