AMOUR MATERNAL has put LOVE YOU among the winning sires on the first day of Australasia’s premier all-trotting carnival.
The filly saluted in a 2yo maiden trot as the Redwood Carnival opened at Maryborough on Sunday.
Amour Maternal was having only her third race start for owner and breeder Yabby Dam Farms.
She was driven patiently with a sit in the running line before dashing away by almost 6m in the 2910m trip.
Reinsman Jack MacKinnon, who trains the filly in partnership with Anton Golino, was pleased to see Amour Maternal bounce back from what he described as a disappointing run at Melton.
He said she possessed high speed over a short distance and had been able to use this in the back straight to get into a winning position.
MacKinnon said Amour Maternal would be set for the Breeders Crown Carnival.
LOVE YOU also had a winner at Forbury Park at Dunedin on Sunday.
Four-year-old mare BEV K’S ONE had her second win in the LAWRENCE/BALCLUTHA/MILTON TROT, 2200m – running the last 400m in 29.6 seconds to rate 2:4.
Bev K’s One is trained by Graeme Anderson and Mike Love, and raced by L E Williams, Heather Williams, Mrs B J Kenny, Shirley W's Syndicate, R D Collins, P J Studholme, L E Williams and H R Williams.
The mare began her racing career with two starts as a 2yo and won one of six outings as a 4yo.
This was her third visit to the races this season.
Bev’s K One is a great granddaughter of all-time great mare Pride Of Petite.
